Over the last few years, people have commented to us that they received a prophetic word from a particular person but that it didn’t sit right with them and have felt worse since then. This person has an amazing ability to tell them stuff about their growing up but hasn’t been able to take them forward. I have never met this person but hubby actually rang this person for his perspective before we went to Mozambique four years ago. This person strongly told my hubby that it was God’s will that we come back to the same church we were at yet we were both sensing that God was wanting us to move churches. On top of that, whilst we were in Mozambique, hubby had two extremely clear dreams about the church we were to go to on our return. The interpretation of hubby’s dreams were confirmed by two independent people experienced in dream interpretation. Thus, we didn’t follow this man’s strong advice and I certainly always felt that he was not accurate about our situation.
I Corinthians 14:3 says that a prophetic word is to be encouraging, edifying and comforting. Thus, when we receive a prophetic word and we don’t feel encouraged, built up or comforted, then something has gone wrong. The person giving the prophetic word may have been not hearing God clearly and using more soulish thoughts than spiritual sensing. We may also not be in the right spiritual space and it may be incorrect timing to receive the word. Another issue may be that the person giving the word may have their psychic door open.
Psychic door open? What do I mean? Sometimes before people become Christians, they may have dabbled in some witchcraft, thus opening their psychic door. Conversely, someone in their generational line may have opened the door and it remains automatically open down through the generations. If it has never been closed, then it is still open and Satan can just as easily confuse your thoughts and tell you about a person’s past, present and future. Revelation can come from both sides. If it is a generational issue, you may be totally unaware that you are receiving insight from the dark side. The great thing is is that it is easy to rectify once you realise and know how.
I will never forget one day being with a friend of mine as she prayed for a lady who had just left prison and wanted to become a Christian. As part of the prayer of salvation, my friend prayed that this lady’s psychic door would be cleansed, closed permanently and sealed and she applied the blood of Jesus over it so that it would never be opened again and that this lady would only see and hear what the Holy Spirit wanted her to hear and see. I was totally amazed. I couldn’t wait to ask my friend why she had done this. She explained that it was just normal practice for her now to pray that as part of her prayer when she was leading people in a prayer of salvation. She found that most people she prays with tend to have a psychic door open and it just deals with it at the time so there are no further problems. It reminded me of the salvation prayer that South American evangelists pray with their folk cleansing the family line at the time of salvation and how they find that people have a lot less problems since they deal with a lot of junk at the time of salvation.
Arthur Burk from the Sapphire Leadership Group (www.theslg.com) has a great teaching on this called “The Druids and the Psychic door”. You can watch this on Youtube free, roughly 20 minutes long. The druids violated their stewardship of the prophetic gift and they delivered true words but from a defiled source, pursuing revelation from the dark side. Arthur goes so far as to say that if you have a generational line that goes back to England, Wales or Scotland, then it is advisable to pray this prayer as many of these family lines were defiled by druids, either having druidic blood in the family line or a carrier of uttering curses about them. Likewise, finish your prayer by asking God to overtly release to you and any other descendant any treasures that belong to you.
Our aim is to draw closer to God, able to hear His voice clearly and to release His promptings to others to encourage, strengthen and comfort. Anything that comes in the way of this should be dealt with as soon as possible so that it doesn’t hinder or defile the process.
Prophetic Activations / Exercises to incorporate into your week:
The purpose of these exercises is to help us hear God’s voice in a clearer manner. They sharpen our senses to hear and recognise God’s voice and His way of communicating with us. This enables us to grow in our relationship with God and also to impart to others what God tells us for them. Feel free to use as many of these activations each week as you can. The more you practice, the sharper you become at hearing God’s voice. Enjoy!
Remember that whenever you give another person a prophetic word or picture etc, please make sure that it is encouraging, edifying (strengthening) and comforting (1 Corinthians 14:3)
1. Children / Families Activation: Get everyone to ask God to show them something for the person on their right (or everyone if enough time). Ask God to show you what sort of writing instrument (eg pen, crayon, texta, paintbrush) they are, the colour, the look etc and how God uses that person.
2. Group Activation: Have people pair up. Give everyone a minute to ask God what sort of stationery item God sees your partner as and why. After a minute, share with your partner.
3. Beginner Activation: If God wrote one or two words on your forehead to describe you to others, what would He write?
4. Intermediate Activation: If God was going to write a story of your life, what title would He give it and why? Ask God to expand on this and show you some highlights of your life that He would include.
5. Advanced Activation: Get a blank piece of paper and pen and put 3 random dots and 5 random lines on the paper. Now ask God to show you how to draw a picture from this. Then ask God to apply the process to your life or a friend’s life. Ask God to show you what He is doing with your life.
