What to do with your Prophetic Words part 4

In the previous few blog posts, I have looked at what to do with your prophetic word concerning using it to contend with your current situation, the initial steps when you receive a prophecy, and how to get the most out of it regarding your identity. This blog post looks at what your prophetic word is saying about your calling and purpose and how to extrapolate that out of your prophetic word.

When we returned from Mozambique six years ago, we looked at the fact that our 8-year-old daughter had prophetic words over her life about healing people in the natural and supernatural. We realized that we couldn’t just wait until she was 21 and expect her to start praying for people and seeing healings. We had a responsibility to place her in situations to steward her growth and development in this. Thus, our family joined our church’s Healing Rooms Team, where we would all get experience and training praying for people for healing. For the first five years we were involved in this, there were minimal children on the team i.e. mostly one other girl.

Were my kids happy about being involved? Not always, mainly because there weren’t many other kids, although my daughter loved catching up with the other girl and looked forward to the times being with her. Were we tempted many times to stop doing this as a family because it was hard? Yes, but we hung in there. Now there are at least 15 children/teenagers on the team, and our kids look forward to going. My daughter has seen God heal so many times that she now expects God to heal and that He wants to heal. God and healing are synonymous.

In relation to your prophetic words, let’s now look at how to find what they are saying about your calling and purpose.

Steps to identifying your calling and purpose:

  • Grab a copy of your prophetic words, some highlighters, a blank sheet of paper and pens.
  • Read through your prophetic word, this time highlighting all the words that talk about:
    • your future
    • your purpose
    • action or ‘doing’ words (as against ‘being’ words)
    • where you are likely to be in the future or what you are likely to be doing
  • As you did with your identity words, read through your prophetic word again and look for words or themes that are repeated, or emphasized.
  • Grab the blank piece of paper and a pen and then write down all the highlighted words.
  • If you have several prophetic words, do this for them all. Highlight:
    • any exact wording
    • common themes
    • stuff that leaps out at you
    • resonates with your soul
    • any words that confirm what God has already been chatting with you about
  • Do not forget to highlight anything that conflicts with what God has already shown you.
    • Look at why it appears to be in conflict with what you already know.
    • Is it a conflict or an enlarging of what you already know?
    • Is it something you need to ‘shelve’ for a period of time?
    • Does it carry the ‘heart’ of God, or is it against God’s character?
    • Is it a conflict or a different way of looking at something God is revealing to you?

Spend time with God seeking His heart on anything that appears to be conflicting.

  • Look for any specific words that talk about where, what, who with, etc. Circle them so they stand out. Use your sheet of paper to mark and highlight important aspects.
  • Take particular note of any character words. Our calling is not in isolation. It is very dependent on our character. Clues to this can be found in who God wants to be for us in this next stage/season of our life. Look for any words along this line. God is a relational God, so He wants to come with us on the journey we are embarking on. He wants to play an essential role in this journey, so look for clues as to who He wants to be for us. Another way of looking at it is ‘what is God wanting to provide for me on this journey?’

Personal prophecy is conditional. It is dependent on us co-operating with God and becoming who He wants us to become. Usually this requires a step up in our character or skills or identity. Does anything come to mind immediately regarding this? Take a moment to ask God to highlight anything to you where you need to go on a character journey.

Spend time dreaming with God.

  • Spend time just being with God, dreaming or imagining what the future may look like for you if these prophetic words come true.
  • What steps will you need to take to get from where you currently are to where you will be?
  • Write down practical things that you would need to grow in.
  • Continue spending time with God over the next few days dreaming and brainstorming with God about these steps.
  • Look at the first 2-3 steps you would need to take. Write them down. Ask God to impress on you the way forward. You need to take some responsibility to action these steps. You can’t expect God to pluck you out of your current circumstances and land you right in your fulfilled prophecy. You may find it helpful to grab another sheet of paper and draw the steps and label them.

In the next blog post, we will look at crafting a prophetic declaration and how to action your next steps.

Prophetic Activations / Exercises to incorporate into your week:

Every week I list 5 prophetic activations/exercises under children/family, group, beginner, intermediate and advanced. The purpose of these exercises is to practice to help us hear God’s voice in a clearer manner. They sharpen our senses to hear and see and sense God and His way of communicating with us. This enables us to grow in our relationship with God and also to impart to others what God tells us for them. Feel free to use as many of these activations each week as you can. The more you practice, the sharper you become at hearing God’s voice. Enjoy! Remember that whenever you give another person a prophetic word or picture etc, please make sure that it is encouraging, edifying (strengthening) and comforting (1 Corinthians 14:3) and that it comes from a place of love.

1. Children / Families Activation:  Put the names of everyone present on separate pieces of paper and place in a hat. Ask each person to pick a piece of paper out. The person’s name on the paper is who they will ask God to share with them which cake mix that person reminds God of and why. Ask everyone to share with the group.

2. Group Activation: Ask everyone to bring a small but significant / meaningful object from home. Place all the objects together. Ask each person to choose an object and prophesy over the person it belongs to.

3. Beginner Activation: Look for a key in your home that you don’t normally use that often. Spend time with God asking Him what is on His heart for that key and what it opens. Ask God to then enlarge your vision and see what He has to say about your next step and an opening that may occur.

4. Intermediate Activation: Find someone wearing a mask (during this time of COVID-19). Ask God to show you His heart for the person and how that relates to the mask they are wearing. Ask God if the colour / pattern / design are influential in what He reveals to you. Ask God if you are to release what God has shown you to the person. If so, find an appropriate way to let the person know God’s thoughts towards them, being aware of the language you use.

5. Advanced Activation: Spend time with God asking Him to show you a bully in your life – whether personal, family, neighbourhood, church, Government etc. Ask God to show you His heart and purpose for this person and your part to play in the ‘bully’s’ life or future. Declare out aloud God’s intentions for this person, finishing with a blessing as you call them higher.

What to do with Your Prophetic Word part 1

It was 8pm, September 2011. 9 Years ago. I was standing beside my daughter’s hospital bed. The Doctor’s addressed me saying, “Mrs Berry. You have a very sick little girl. We don’t know yet what is wrong with her but by the morning, we should have some answers back. So far, we have tested for HIV Aids, Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Cancer, Leukaemia…..” My mind went blank and I didn’t hear anything else.

The Doctors left the room and I managed to settle my 8-year-old daughter for sleep. I sank down into the chair beside her bed. Thankfully, we were in an isolated room (as they thought my daughter may be infectious) so we didn’t have to contend with anyone else.

As I snuggled into that hard plastic chair, my mind was racing. It had taken us over ten years to be able to fall pregnant. Now, I was looking at losing her. Would she die in two years, one year, four months? This was all flashing through my mind. Suddenly, my mind was arrested.

We had just returned from Mozambique, Africa where we had attended the Iris Harvest School for three months under Heidi Baker. Whilst we were there, we had received a prophetic word from a man called David Wagner. We were new to prophecy and had no idea about it apart from the fact that this guy was meant to be very accurate. We didn’t even know what to do with our prophetic word so we had recorded it, transcribed it and prayed it through. In fact, we had prayed it through so much that we knew it off by heart.

It was now that a sentence or two from that memorised prophetic word came back to me about my daughter. “I saw the Lord putting a doctor’s coat on you in the days ahead and I just saw you as one who walks who is not only going to be a physician, but one who carries the great physician and I saw you as one who ministers to people with miracles and medicine and medical missions and all of those things.”

I suddenly realised, for my 8-year-old daughter to become a doctor and fulfil this prophetic word (& for me, it is not about whether she becomes a doctor as she can have the freedom to choose whatever) but it meant that she would have to be at least 24 years old to be finished university to become a doctor. That meant that she was not going to die from whatever disease she currently was facing.

At that moment, I laughed in the face of adversity like the Proverbs 31 woman (Proverbs 31:25). I grabbed that prophetic word and I began to contend and war with the situation we were currently facing and I used it to give us hope. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “ For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I knew the outcome. I knew that this huge ‘mountain’ in front of us was not the end. With that prophetic word, I could ‘see’ over the top of that ‘mountain’ and ‘see’ that there was a future. This mountain we were facing might be huge, but it wasn’t going to be the end. Sure, we had to get through it to get to the other side, but it wasn’t the end. The prophetic word gave us hope and a future.

Friends, please, please, please. If you don’t have a prophetic word for you, your children etc, get one. Secondly, use your prophetic word wisely and contend with the current situation you are facing. Make your prophetic word into a declaration and speak it out against your current situation. Pray your prophetic word into being.

Make sure you subscribe so that you get next week’s blog post as I am going to start to look at the practical aspects of “What to do with your prophetic word”. This is part of a 4-week series.

To prepare, grab your prophetic words out and read over them. If you don’t have one for yourself or each of your children, ask someone you know who is prophetic and whom you trust to give you a prophetic word for yourself and for each of your children.

Then ask God what He would like to communicate to the other family/group members through the objects of nature.

2. Group Activation: Select a local business that most group members would be aware of. Spend time asking God for His heart for that business. Decree and declare out aloud God’s heart over that business.

3. Beginner Activation: Turn on a tap or jump under the shower and ask God to reveal something of Himself to you through the sound and feel of the running water. Spend some time focussing on God and His goodness and intentions towards you. Revel in God’s goodness through the running water.

4. Intermediate Activation: Ask God to show you someone who desperately needs God’s encouragement today. Contact this person and share what you sense/see/hear that which is on God’s heart for that person.

5. Advanced Activation: Ask God to highlight a news headline to you today. Pray into that headline and prophesy God’s outcome over the situation.

1. Children / Families Activation: Brainstorm someone you know who is sad or perhaps struggling or having a rough time or someone you don’t see much but am missing. See if you can all draw a picture for this person that will speak prophetically to the person and give them hope.

2. Group Activation: Get everyone who has had a birthday in the last 2 months to stand up. Blind fold them. Then ask every other group member to choose one of these people to stand in front of. Have each person standing in front of the blindfolded person to prophecy over them one at a time. After everyone has finished, release the blindfolds and ask each birthday person to comment on which prophetic word resonated the most with them and why.

3. Beginner Activation: Think of someone having a birthday in the near future. Write a prophetic word for them on the birthday card.

4. Intermediate Activation: Find a couple who are getting engaged or getting married. Write a prophetic word for them as a couple. Give this to them in an appropriate manner.

5. Advanced Activation: Find someone who is pregnant or just had a baby. Write a prophetic word for the baby. Give this to the parents. Also try and find a gift to give to them that matches the prophetic word ie a prophetic gift.

One of the Benefits of having a Prophetic Word.

1. Children / Families Activation: Gather a number of items that have different surfaces and textures. Spend some time touching the various textures and asking God what He wants to reveal to everyone about Himself through the different textures. Then ask God if He has something to say to the other family/group members through what He has said or shown you.

2. Group Activation: Get everyone to stand up and move to the edge of the room. Ask everyone to turn around and face the wall so that everyone’s back faces into the middle of the room. Ask everyone to focus on God and quieten themselves down before God and then ask God to highlight something directly in front of them on the wall. Then get everyone to use that which was highlighted to them in a prophetic word to the person on their left. Allow five minutes for sharing the prophetic words.

3. Beginner Activation: Go outside where you can see something of nature. Ask God to highlight a particular aspect of His nature and character through looking at nature. Ask God what He wants to tell you or show you about this and how it applies to you. Write down what you feel, hear or see God saying to you and declare it out aloud over yourself.

4. Intermediate Activation: Ask God to show you someone who needs encouragement today. Then ask God to show or highlight to you a verse or passage in the Bible that you can craft in to a prophetic word and use to encourage this person. Share it with that person.

5. Advanced Activation: Look for a news headline from today. Read it and ask God to highlight a person from that headline/news article to you. Then ask God to give you a prophetic word for that person. Either declare it aloud into the atmosphere or write it down and investigate a way to send that prophetic word to the person.
